About the Soapmaker:

I fell into soapmaking several decades ago. With an abundance of milk from a goat I acquired from a friend, along with the will to not allow a drop of it to go to waste. I tried out a soap recipe I came across in the back of a very old cookbook that had been handed down to me. It wasn't the best milk soap but it was soap.

I continued on making soap with nearly endless adjustments over the years. Through the successful batches and the many failures, I discovered the science behind the soap. In most recent years, I've taught soapmaking classes, written and shared countless soap formulas with aspiring soapmakers and volunteer as a
troubleshooter in soapmaking groups and forums around the globe. While I may have accidentally fell into soapmaking, I soon became completely dedicated to it. Learning what our skin needs, what the soap needs and what it takes to balance them both out.

Today I maintain a small herd of lovely Alpine milk goats along with their faithful guardian dogs and some laying hens. I was a milking sheep farmer in my past years but now I am mostly a homesteader. My passions are my family, sustainability, resourcefulness, making things from scratch, growing/raising our food and animal tending. A wise mentor from many moons ago once told me, "When healthy animals are lovingly cared for, only good things can grow from that." She was right about that and so many other things too.

The milk the animals give is sweet, high in butterfat and delicious. I turn that milk into cheeses, br
eads, butter and of course lots and lots of old fashion soap. My journey with soap continues. Thank you for coming along with me!  Suzanne
